Content creation is a pain.

That’s why copywriters exist.

But if you’re not quite ready to tackle a full copywriting project, here are three actionable tips you can do today that will elevate your copy.

1 – Read it out loud

It’s easy to get caught up in sounding professional and knowledgeable while maintaining your brand voice. There’s a lot to think about.

So it sometimes gets messy.

Take a second, and read out your copy.

If it doesn’t roll off the tongue naturally, it doesn’t work.

If it sounds stunted and awkward, it doesn’t work.

If you cringe reading it out, it doesn’t work.

2 – Think shorter

People rarely read things properly. No surprise.

So you need to grab their attention however you can.

Your users are likely skimming your content – make it easy for them.

Remove any filler words that don’t add anything to what you’re saying.

Focus on one main idea in a sentence.

Please. Use. Headings. Not only will your users thank you, Google will too.

3 – Know your audience

Yes, it’s cliche. But it doesn’t mean it’s not true.

It’s easy to get caught up in what you’re writing – you know your industry well, after all.

But your ideal client might not.

Don’t scare them off with complicated jargon when simple terminology will do.

What’s your client’s main problem? Is your copy recognising this? And, most importantly, does it share how you can provide a solution?

Writing (and re-writing!) through this lens will resonate with your intended users, and make your job a lot easier.

Thoughts? Concerns? Feedback?
